Year of Manufacture *: 2007
Engine Size and Code *: Z13DTH
( Optional ) Scanner Used: Multiscan
( Optional) Fault Codes: P0403
When cranked the engine starts promptly, runs for 1-2 seconds then stops. It is necessary to cycle the key to crank again i.e. it is not possible to keep starter motor engaged by holding key over (I was concerned about DMF issues) so it is not possible to keep cranking to see if another start attempt is made.
Scanned by AA/RAC who said it was an EGR issue, I found the EGR solenoid unplugged.
ECM EOBD reported P0403 EGR control circuit (it was unplugged).
ECM as Z13DTH reported P0621(08) generator warning lamp circuit. P0403(04)EGR. P0135(08)O2 sensor heater B1S1
BCM reported B3600(04) no description but internet search returns dimmed illumination sw fault.
Removed pcb from key and confirmed engine will now not crank and service light flashes with P3055 code recorded in BCM.
A search of UKAT gives a couple of possibles, one issue about oil life exceeded and the other that they will not run with no MAF data which I will investigate.
I have checked EGR plunger moves freely and that the inlet throttle is not closing on start up.(had that on a Golf TDi once due to a failed vacuum valve with similar symptoms).
Exhaust sounds to be breathing freely.
I have had a good look through live data and nothing seemed to be amiss but have not really scrutinised everything yet.
