Please don't take this the wrong way as I appreciate you are trying to help a customer but given the lack of understanding of the system I would advise passing this job on to someone who understands the system operation & potential dangers.
This will allow you the time to train on the system, perhaps by attending a course so you can then undertake diagnosis with more confidence.
