Vehicle has recent history of extensive (and expensive) repairs culminating with Turbo replacement (Not by me)

It seems to be OK now but for At idle there is a slight hunt and a corresponding "Grunting" noise from the EGR valve controll solenoid (Next to oil filter housing) About one "Grunt"/second

I admit I havent really done much testing on this other than the use of the Mk1 Ear! (It was late and, the light was failing and it was starting to rain) but am curious if anybody has seen something like this before.

Is it likly to be the valve or something else, Possibly more complex. More to the point, Might this have something to do with the history of oil smoking?
