Not sure what you mean by "emmissions pack on back of pump". Depending on what system it has some have a mechanical lift pump that is bolted to the back of the high pressure pump. To check whether it has an in tank pump just look at the number of wires going into the tank from the plug just above the rear axle. 2 wires only equals no in tank pump. If it wont start until it has cooled down it should give you time to do some tests. Looking at live data, what is the fuel pressure whilst cranking? Have you done a leak off test?
I have had one with a crank sensor fault even though all local dealers said they had never sold one. That did give an engine speed signal code though. If you get stuck drop it round, I'll take a look if you want.
