Andy was spot on with this one. There is a thermostat fitted inside the small housing that fits on to the back of the water pump. We changed this for a new genuine Ford replacement and the temperature when hot is now as I would expect. If I hadn't been pointed in the right direction I would never have guessed this hose connection housing had a thermostat inside!! Thanks Andy
