Whilst searching the archives I came across another post....
VW Golf TDi 2003 - Engine runs realy rough, crank sensor signal not very good

sorry I dont know how to link to it properly !
I have exactly the same scope pattern on the crank sensor - replaced it and the fault is better, but not completely. now it revs up OK unless you have your foot on the clutch.
I have removed the clutch pedal switch and the engine runs rough as soon as you put any load on the clutch pedal - you dont even need to depress it fully. So it must be a mechanical fault
There is lateral movement on the crank when you press the clutch so I'm guessing the reluctor is moving enough to give a weak crank signal ??
If you scope it you can see the crank signal becomes marginally weaker when the clutch is depressed
This did have a turbo failure last month, but as far as I am aware the engine didn't pick up on its own oil although the exhaust was filled with oil
Any ideas would be appreciated before I condemn the engine
