what i have learnt about them and hard starting is that the battery must be good, the oil the
correct grade s (very important)
when the engine is cranking it creates two seperate oil pressure feeds one
for lubrication and one for the fuel pump system, this one needs to be there
for the engine to go. on the left side of the engine near the pump there are
bungs into the galleries, you can measure the pressure here. another fault is within the sump, the oil pickup has an oring that can leak air stoping oil feed, by overfiling the oil to above this level fixes that if you measure the oil presuure and it is good while cranking then apart from the obviou s engine compression and glow system you could be looking at
injectors, this is the weakest thing in the engine with most catastrophic failures caused by them , the orings go allowing engine oil to pass into the cylinders making the engine run and rev until it blows. any components replaced ie injectors, pump, pressure switch etc all need to be calibrated by a scan tool
my pick is check battery , glow plugs, oil type and pressure, then injectors
good luck
