After a day of head scratching I wonder if anybody else has experienced the following and maybe shed some light on the problem.
1. Called out to van on a job for lights not switching off. Van started up by customer, fault went away, then van cutout follwoed by electrical burning.
2. Recovered van as it was now suspect dangerous and non-start/running. Found that harness the ABS had chaffed through to chassis resulting in 8 wires fusing together.
3. Separated fused wiring, van started and ran every time although with ABS MIL illuminated.
4. Repaired loom and attempted to start, no crank but ABS fixed and passing self test.
5. Checked all fuses and supplies to PCM incase of further shorting plus uptaped entire loom section from ABS, bulkhead connection to PCM etc. No further signs of damage.
6. Attempted comms to PCM but will not initialise on manufacturer test and also EOBD.
7. Immobiliser LED flash with ignition off and goes out when ignition switched on.
I have checked the following:
a. Supplies to PCM & grounds
b. Engine control relays
c. Starter relay and associated wiring (starter d. will crank if force but no start)
e. Immobiliser transciever wiring (no spare key)
Customer also tells me last week that throttle was playing up in that the engine would go to idle when driving. Reset on ignition cleared the fault; happen twice.
I was wondering if there is anything else I can check. Not sure if I have a suspect PCM/Immobilser fault or am I missing the obvious.
Many thanks,
Andrew
