Year of Manufacture *: 51 plate Engine Size and Code *: NA
Just a little stocking filler.
Wipers not working, concluded that the Motor was U/S. New ones seem hard to come by and somewhat expensive so I took the plunge and pulled it to pieces.
The "Electrical wiring bit" clips over the gearbox and is easily (carefully) removed. There is a small copper tag which is meant to contact the alloy body when it is all assembled to provide an earth connection, this had burned away. All I had to do was bend it over a bit so that a new contact surface came into play and all was well!
I dont know how long this will last but I see no reason why it should not be for some time, but a note to the effect that if it fails again a replacement will be needed should cover the situation.
I dare say this will not be uncommon on the valeo motors since the design seems a bit weak!
Yes its a common Problem Paul on French cars, Once you know about the problem, its easy to diagnose as the body becomes live when the wipers are turned on. ( live because its lost its internal earth )
A Quicker method is to bolt an earth wire to one of the mounting studs and then to the car body.
This way it just saves time removing and stripping the motor.
