Vauxhall Vivaro 2.5 G9U 2005 - MIL on, flat performance, code 1815 - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 2005 Engine Size and Code *: 2500 G9U ( Optional ) Scanner Used: Solus Pro ( Optional) Fault Codes: 1815 - Inlet air/Boost pressure circuit.
This van came in as a warranty repair from a motor dealer.
Symptoms were eml on and flat performance.
After scanning and looking at values in live data I condemned the boost pressure sensor, but soon realised that the solus was somewhat muddying the waters so to speak.
On tech2 this code is correctly described as 'Boost pressure control solenoid'. - confirmed by a tech2 user.
I checked the solenoid operation and it was a permanent short, fitted a new solenoid valve, job was a good 'un.
My point in posting is to hopefully help snap on users not to take it as gospel code descriptions, ie in my case the boost sensor was £175 retail and the solenoid valve £41 respectively.
I feel that snap on diagnostics are good kit, but do need care when diagnosing.
If I am ever even slightly unsure of a definition I use a forum search here or the ever more powerful google.
Liam.

I agree Liam, but it isn't just the 'Snap on' kit, one of the lads did a code read on a Vectra last week with the Bosch KTS, one of the code descriptions was P1191 - undocumented code.
So I put the Vauxcom on, - same code but a good description of the FRP sensor fault.
Live data then proved that it had fuel pressure way above the desired pressure.
Just goes to show it's always worth double checking, especially if it's not dealer kit.
