Ford Focus C-Max 2.0 2007 - Near EPB disaster - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 2007
Engine Size and Code *: 2.0L
( Optional ) Scanner Used: Modis
( Optional) Fault Codes: "Total EPB Failure" following rear pad change

Had a near heart attack with this one, last job of the day running against the clock as usual, just replace rear brake pads.

This system uses a motor to operate the handbrake levers on conventional calipers, what I did not do was apply the emergency release lever prior to operating handbrake switch after replacing pads. On operating switch got a horrible screetching from handbrake motor,brakes locked on,and a message on the dash saying "total epb failure",great !

Immediately thought of big bucks flying out of the window,rang Ford tech, he said "yes, they do that sometimes,did you not operate release lever?"

No, I said, he said disconnect battery and module may reset, luckily it did,had to reset parameters with Modis but ended happily, reset piston to pad air gap,re-calibrated emergency release and all worked again,Phew !

Lesson learnt, disengage handbrake via emergency release lever before replacing rear pads.

No it is not! I have full CD3 up to date and it has the EPB section greyed out, I did have a look first !

Thats weird Dave,

Not near my disc version of AD at the moment but just called up online version and for a 2007 AODB 2.0 Focus C-max input manually no EPB,tab is greyed out, if I do it via VRM lookup then it is there,spooky !

I have also found that the VRM lookup can give more options than a manual vehicle entry. I was convinced I had seen something and then it wasn't there as an option from entering vehicle make model etc a month or so later. I checked back on the reg and entered that and it was available to click on. I think it was for fuse and relays but the manual entry only gave Airbag components. So I believe you Tony.
