VW Golf 2.0 GT TDi 140 (MK5) 2007 - ESP / ABS Fault - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 2007
Engine Size and Code *: 2.0

Thought this was worth a mention, had this golf with ESP light on,fault code Brake Pressure Sensor 1 (G201) seen this one a few times before and had always sent abs module away for repair. Thanks to the archive search on this site we ordered in from TPS a repair kit £128.70 + vat, fitted it and had it back up & running within a couple of hrs, saved customer a fair bit of money & vehicle only off the road for half a day, he was delighted.

These ABS pumps are now available from VW, you get supplied the hydraulic and motor part, so you just bolt on the original ECU (so no programming needed) I think it was around £150

I had a 2007 Seat Leon this week with this fault & the part is only available as complete unit at 700 odd quid.

Ouch!

Hi Dave

I done a 2008 Leon 2.0 tdi BKD engine last month.

Repair kit was 1K0698517B, had to push TPS to find the repair kit number as they wanted to sell me the complete unit.

I don't think some of the partsmen are aware of the repair kit !

That part number that Glyn listed was the same as the one I fitted to a VW Jetta diesel, I think it was 2008 model.
The price from VW was £128.90 + vat.
The part number that is on the new hydraulic pump unit is slightly different from original, so I presume VW have modified

Message for Hilly,
We run the genuine aftermarket parts cat ETOS for VAG.
SEAT don't seem to list the repair kit for their MK60 fitted models on the VAG parts network - it appears this is SEAT's policy not to supply this repair, (SEAT are a PITA to VAG as they do not comply with a lot of VAG's policies)
However when cross referencing Golf 5's, Tourans etc, the ECU part No's crossover to the Leon.
We have fitted a couple of repair kits now that weren't listed for the Leon - but were listed for a Golf with the same ECU.
Unfortunately ETKA doesn't enable TPS to see this repair kit as an available part for the Leon.

without checking paper work i had 2007 seat leon and got a repair kit for about 128 +vat from tps no problem when first asked they said 700 quid but we said job had been quoted for about 500 done they looked further into it and came up with repair kit Tony

Tony,
it sounds as though you had a parts lad with a bit of lateral thinking - When we looked into a Leon there was no repair kit listed - just an exchange modulator at £700.
We took the part No.s off the SEAT & transferred them into the VW Golf 5 page on ETOS & the kit was available.
But not on the Leon page for that specific vehicle.

Unfortunately some of the guys employed at Manchester TPS struggle to look up the correct part for anything - which is why we pay for ETOS each month, now we give them the part No. & get the right part every time.

For anyone else it - it is worth asking if the part No.s cross to a Golf & ordering the repair kit for a Golf - which is how we now tackle this repair on a SEAT, ( but look the No.s up ourselves.)

Hi Jon,

I need a repair kit 1K0698517B for a Leon I priced it at TPS Scunthorpe they tell me it is £204.50 retail £194.27 trade I happened to mention Manc TPS are knocking them out at £128.70 After he looked into it (by ringing Manchester) he told me price increase now at this across the board, how can they justify price increases like this... as they say 'I thought Dick Turpin was dead!!' I can't imagine they would tell you different but you never know eh? I will check part number price at local VW and Seat dealer...

I'll look into that tomorrow & get back to you.
It wouldn't surprise me if the price has gone up, they've just shaved £300 off the price of the 2.0 PD Piezo injectors since VOSA launched a safety enquiry into them. Gotta get the money back on another fast moving, (crap) part presumably?

as suspected, the German schiesters have doubled the price to pay for all those injectors they're fitting for free.

Retail is now £204.50 + VAT.

I have replaced several of these units on VW's , and similar ones on BMW's. TPS always denied the availability of these units until we gave them the part number.

I have a couple of customers now with Audi A2's ( about 2005 ) with the same fault codes and have been told by TPS that the sensors are built into the ABS unit not in the master cylinder and the repair kit is not available for that vehicle. ??? They have quoted £1220 + vat for for the complete unit. One of these cars, a diesel model failed at just over 3 years old with around 16,000 miles on the clock. It was returned to the Dealer only to be told that it would not be covered under warranty or even given a contribution as the vehicle had not been dealer serviced.

How can anyone get away with selling crap, admitting that theres a problem on some cars and issuing a reasonably priced repair kit but then totally refusing to help out other customers leaving them with an extortianate bill to keep their 3 year old car on the road. ??

Could someone please check to see if these vehicles have the same modulator to allow a reasonably priced repair. ??

I have heard that up to 05 they have seperate sensors and 05 on they are internal.

provide me with a reg or chassis No. & I'll look into it for you.
It will depend on chassis No. to get the correct info for you.

It is the one with the sensor in the modulator that this post is about - the quote you have been given sounds like an ECU with modulator price??

We have the parts cat here for VAG so I will be able to confirm price & location of the sensor for you.

i have done several of these' customers have gone to vw customer service & have been paid for the repair
