Thanks for replies, meant to repost sooner. After running the car for 20 minutes upon turning off I heard a sound like a pump attempting to continue turning (unsuccessfully) and then 'POP'...........light back on 40 amp fuse blown! Doh!!
Check relay and found exactly what Chris described burnt relay contacts causing the load side of the relay to remain on
Replaced relay and all has been fine since.
