Hi Tony.
I had a 1J golf that was the same.
I left the battery support on for half an hour @14.9v.
I kept locking and unlocking the car.
It unlocked after several attempts.
Maybe I was just lucky.
I kept going because initially there was no sound or movement from the lock.
When I put the battery support on I could hear some noise from the lock.
