this can be fitted in situ, repair kit is available from VAG.
VW dealer quotes 3 hours for the job, first one will possibly take you that - I'm currently doing them in around 1 hour.
Place a rag under the turbo to catch dropped spanners / nuts.
Remove top of air filter housing, remove inlet trunking complete with bolt on angled connector piece to turbo inlet. Place blanking plug on turbo & rag under turbo, climb onto the slam panel & make yourself cosy, undo the 3 x bolts holding the turbo actuator in place ( a bit of slight manouvering of the oil feed pipe with a lever may be necessary).
Drag the turbo actuator upwards and lodge it on the turbo casing, find a long 10mm open ender & release top locknut, spend the next 10 mins cursing the idiot who used loctite on the bottom nut as you undo it whilst dropping spanner / socket into catch rag (& thanking me for telling you to place a rag under the turbo to catch droppages as you get w*ankers cramp).
Match the height of the top nut on the new unit with the old one using a vernier caliper, fit new unit - winding bottom nut up to top nut & locking in place, bolt actuator on with one bolt.
Turn ignition on and go to Engine Group 120, Dynamic 4 - this should be reading between 3.4 & 3.9V with ignition on engine off ( no vacuum ).
Using a Mityvac, vac the unit up to the maximum position - the reading in Group 120 Dynamic 4 should now read 0.76V - this is the important one, if it isn't reading 0.76 - slacken unit off & adjust until it does.
Once setup there is a basic setting to be carried out at 80C in control unit functions, this operates & stores the values for the actuator - if it doesn't attain the correct values it will log a boost position sender limit not reached DTC
