i have been using a hydrometer for this purpose with great effect for over two years
you need a scientific supplier for a hydrometer with a range of arround 700 - 1100.
this covers all fuels inc biodiesel.
then do a search on google for fuel oil specific gravity charts and away you go...
think mine only cost £30 and £10 for a jar, looks good to the customer as well !!!
