( Optional) Fault Codes: p1545 Throttle position control malfunction
This was posted on another forum, I just thought I would share it with you guys.
The vehicle came to me with a slight flat spot under acceleration every now and then and also intermittant EPC light leaving the car with no throttle response until the ignition was cycled off and on.
After pulling the code and clearing. I test drove the car and drove it under different conditions and found if I depressed the throttle very slowly I could feel a slight flat spot/ hesitation.
To try and cut a long story short.
I scoped the MAF and the accelerator pedal (both tracks)
green=MAF blue+red=Accelerator pedal
You can see the signal drops out in the MAF but the APP remains undisturbed.
Then I scoped the MAF and both TPS tracks
green=MAF blue+red=TPS
The drop out is seen in both throttle tracks at the same time the MAF drops out so it seems the butterfly is actually closing causing a slight decrease in airflow as seen by the MAF signal.
I then scoped both TPS tracks with KOEO.
blue=TPS track 1 red=TPS track 2
The signal drops out on both tracks at the same time every second press of the pedal.
Both TPS tracks share a 5v ref and 0v ground so I scoped them.
The 5v and 0v were undesturbed so I opened up the throttle body and found some of the first few teeth worn on the throttle butterfly drive gear as seen at around 1v track 1 or 4v track 2 in the TPS traces at the begining of the throttle flap opening.
This is what I found inside the throttle body
I fitted a second hand throttle body supplied by the customer he bought it for £60. I reset basic settings and all was well I hope that this can help somebody else.
This is the finished TPS trace just for sake of showing the complete fix.
cheers
James
