John Ridgway Transferware Platter "Charmontel" Pattern Posted by Rebecca Elliff on July 21, 2026, 6:13 pm Hi! I recently purchased a beautiful antique transfer ware platter by John Ridgway with the pattern "charmontel" stamped on the back along with a coat of arms. I am not able to locate this platter or pattern anywhere on the internet. I'm just curious if anyone else has come across any pieces of this particular pattern?

It is also in Petra Williams's 1978 Staffordshire book on page 615. Our pattern entry notes that Charmontel pears from the Isle of Jersey were popular and expensive in London in the early 19th century - perhaps the pattern name came from that?
