'Opaque China' stamp identification on U81 pattern jug Posted by Anne-Claire on June 25, 2026, 5:53 am Hello, I would love to hear from anyone who has come across this 'opaque china' stamp before or who could tell me more about it. It's on the base of a jug that has the same pattern as U81 by Samuel & John Rathbone (pattern 6070 in the TCC database). I've tried to find the stamp on the TCC database but haven't been successful. Thanks in advance.

It is shown on page 37 of Ian Harvey's book on Rathbone with the caption "This mark is applied in blue to earthenware Chinoiserie jugs in pattern U81. The jugs are the earthenware versions of the porcelain examples marked with the R in a sunburst. The earthenware with this mark is seldom seen and then only on this pattern." Thank you so much for this information. Ian Harvey's book is on my wishlist I forgot to mention that the jug is 14 cm in height. I got it along with a lovely little mug (7.5 cm high, diameter 8.2 cm without the handle) whose pattern I haven't been able to find. Would you mind taking a look? I'd be most grateful.
