Lady with bird and cage - seated man variant Posted by Anne-Claire on June 3, 2026, 5:04 am Hello, I was wondering if anyone had come across this version (colourway) of pattern 5068 'Lady with bird and cage - seated man variant' before? The engraving seems to be the same but the colours are different. I read with great interest Pete Christmas' excellent research paper entitled "1820s Pearlware filled-in transfers; patterns and attributions" and the stamp looks like Mark 14 (unattributed). Any further information you could give me on this beautiful pair of ‘blue ground filled-in transfer enameled overglaze' jugs would be gratefully received! Thanks in advance

The colors were applied by hand, often by children, and most likely often without specific guidance as to color selection. I'm glad you enjoyed Pete's article, and appreciate you mentioning it.
