Date 5/25/26 Requesting Date of Pottery Sherd Posted by Mark Carman on May 25, 2026, 4:16 pm This pottery sherd was found at an 1840s archaeological house site and would like to know the dates when it was manufactured.

Re: Date 5/25/26 Requesting Date of Pottery Sherd Posted by Len on May 26, 2026, 9:54 pm, in reply to "Re: Date 5/25/26 Requesting Date of Pottery Sherd" Since the Shannon pattern is maker unknown we can't be very precise in dating, but the style of transferware would be in keeping with the date of the house site where you found it, that is about 1845 or so and into the 1850s.

Unfortunately, the internet page that listed this plate did not include a photo of the maker's mark. Is that what you are looking for?

We have five examples of the Shannon pattern in the database (same border, different central views). They do have the "Shannon" pattern mark but no maker's mark. Staffordshire, of course, was a region where many potteries operated, so which of those may have produced this pattern is up in the air until an example with a maker's mark appears. So far nothing has.
