These are the six plates that I found together with the Alcock "Commerce" bowl from my previous post. They're an exact match with the entry in the database, which states "maker unknown." My question/comment is: apparently the bowl and plates were brought to the swap shop as a set, so perhaps a previous collector acquired them together. The similarities in these two patterns are remarkable, perhaps the plates were also made by Alcock? Any ideas for resources to identify this maker's mark?
Again, very nice finds! I would have grabbed those myself. Yes, the Lausanne Villa pattern does resemble the Commerce pattern, but a lot of the patterns produced in the 1830s resemble each other, that was the style then. Alcock is certainly one possibility but a number of other potteries also produced patterns that look like this. We can only hope some day to find an example with the maker's name though it's proved impossible (so far) to attribute many well known patterns to any particular factory. But we live in hope! Thanks again, Mimi.
