His majesty Johnson Brothers 20” platter Posted by Tracy estes on April 25, 2023, 9:39 am I have a lovely platter that has what appears to be a scratch across the entire shallow portion of the platter. It is not a scratch but appears to have not been properly aligned is the best I can imagine. Any idea if this was common and what that would do to its value? Thank you so much!

Re: His majesty Johnson Brothers 20” platter Posted by David on April 25, 2023, 11:43 am, in reply to "His majesty Johnson Brothers 20” platter" If it is not a scratch, it is likely a crease in the transfer, either when the transfer tissue was printed, or when the ink was transferred from the tissue onto the platter. I don't know how common this was, probably occurred more than occasionally, but I believe many potters spotted these errors and "wasted" the piece rather than place for sale, so many never left the pottery for sale. As to value, such an occurrence, in general, can't help, whether it makes a difference for this particular pattern, I can't say.
