19th century Chinese photographs on transferware? Posted by Karina Corrigan on February 10, 2020, 11:27 am For an exhibition on 19th century Chinese photography, we are researching diverse media on which photographers in China printed their images. Several photographers advertise printing on stone and porcelain. I'm wondering if they could have been transfer printing their photographs onto ceramics? I'd be grateful for any insights this esteemed group might be willing to share. I'm a curator at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA Many thanks! Karina

Hi Karina, Thank you for your inquiry. Regrettably the TCC database does not have any examples of Chinese photography printed on British ceramics. Perhaps that is due to the time period of 1750-1900 that is the club's focus. We have many wonderful examples of printed wares that relied on source prints, like the Thomas Allom prints, but nothing from actual photographs. Wishing you success in your search, Loren Zeller
