It is most certainly English and most likely from the mid- to later 19th century. Dale 1977, the current go to reference (but soon to be superseded with a new much more comprehensive book by Houghton, Layden & Taylor), illustrates 40 and references another 36 bears grease lids. As far as I can tell this lid is not shown in Dale.
