Hello, I am inquiring about my own pot lid which I found in a river. I was wondering if you knew anything about it. Thank you! From Fiona

This is a super lid; I've never seen it before, although I must say I am not a bears grease pot lid expert. It is most certainly English and most likely from the mid- to later 19th century. Dale 1977, the current go to reference (but soon to be superseded with a new much more comprehensive book by Houghton, Layden & Taylor), illustrates 40 and references another 36 bears grease lids. As far as I can tell this lid is not shown in Dale. I suggest you post to the following Facebook sites: Historical Guide to Advertising Pot Lids https://www.facebook.com/groups/314819805599206/ and Pot Lids https://www.facebook.com/groups/385379778270136/ and see if any of the collectors can help you.

Taking back a small bit of my previous post. I do have this lid recorded in my records, it was offered on eBay in 2011. But the seller had no information on maker, retailer or wholesaler, etc.
