Henry Alcock & Co “Manhattan”

Posted by Kristina on November 27, 2017, 11:54 pm

I was looking for more information on my set, but do not see this pattern listed in the database. Perhaps it’s not old enough, or not really transferware?

I’m missing a few pieces, and haven’t had any luck finding replacements. Maybe one of you recommend another pattern that would be complementary?

Hi Kristina. Yes, this is transferware, and seems typical of Henry Alcock's patterns from about 1890 to maybe WWI? If you google "Henry Alcock" Manhattan or search on eBay you'll find some examples but you've probably already done that. Seems it was also produced in flow blue. Pretty pattern. Good luck finding more!

I find it interesting that I’ve been unable to find much info over the years, even though his products seem to be relatively common.

The only real online resource I’ve found is thepotteries.org website by Steve Birks. With the information he has collected, I’ve been able to date my set as having been manufactured at the Elder Pottery of Cobridge between 1891 and 1900.
