This large mug (?perhaps for porter) belongs to Sheffield Museums and may be included in a forthcoming exhibtion there called 'Ming Spotlight' demonstrating the influence of China on British ceramics. Can anyone identify the scenes printed on it and perhaps take a guess at the factory? The mug is unmarked. Many thanks for any help you can give. The images are being sent to the webmaster and should be posted by Thursday.
Hi Aileen, Unfortunately, we do not know the maker of this mug, but our database editor Len Kling has recorded it as The Cottage Door Here is his description: "Coffee can, size unknown. The principal part of this wraparound design depicts a family taking its ease outside the door of their cottage. An extensive landscape opens up on the other side of this quiet scene, as a pair of horsemen travel along the banks of a large body of water, with an arched bridge, more cottages and mountains in the distance. No published reference for this pattern has been found, so it has a TCC Assigned Name pending further information." I recognized it immediately because I had sent the images to Len. Your images are much better. With your permission, I should think Len would prefer to use yours. Thanks for your inquiry, Loren
