I don't, but others may, know of specific references which discuss reticulated borders. They are not uncommon, particularly on baskets, desert dishes, and some under trays. Our pattern and source print database has 37 examples when one enters "reticulated" in the general search feature (the emphasis of the DB is patterns, not shapes, so the 37 examples or in effect coincidence, the pattern image being of a piece which happens to have reticulation). Most of the 37 examples date 1820s and 1830s, but it can be both earlier and later. I see you are not a TCC member, but you can access the DB for $10 for 24 hours. |
