This is the "Canterbury" pattern by James Broadhurst & Sons. The pattern was registered on 16 March 1883.

Broadhurst China was established in 1862 and the firm was based at the Crown Pottery, Longton, Staffordshire until 1870. In 1870 the firm moved to the Portland Pottery at Fenton, Staffordshire. In 1897 "& Sons" was added to the company name and "Ltd." from c. 1922.

The juxtaposition of a picturesque architectural vignette with naturalistic flowers, abstract ornament, and sharply contrasting patterned grounds is characteristic of late nineteenth-century Aesthetic Movement transferware, creating the appearance of layered textiles, prints, and decorative objects assembled into a single composition.
