I’m hoping you might be able to help me identify a set of four antique transferware plates I recently acquired.

Each plate measures slightly under 6 inches in diameter and all four have the same transfer-printed decoration and backstamp. The mark consists of a circular design with the word “CHINESE” inside and “B.P.Co.” underneath.

The decoration is a monochrome brown/black transfer depicting two women in an East Asian garden setting, surrounded by a geometric border. All four plates show age-related crazing and discoloration consistent with older earthenware.

My research suggests that B.P.Co. may refer to Brownhills Pottery Co. of Tunstall, Staffordshire (1872–1896) and that “CHINESE” may be the pattern name. However, I have been unable to locate another example of this exact pattern and would very much appreciate confirmation or correction of that identification.

I would especially be interested in learning:

• Whether these are indeed Brownhills Pottery Co.
• Whether “CHINESE” is the documented pattern name
• An approximate production or registration date
• Whether this particular pattern is known or recorded in the TCC Pattern & Source Print Database
• Any information about rarity or other known examples

I would also love to determine value.
