I am trying to identify an inherited burgundy/red transfer-printed dinner service currently in Norway.

The service has no visible printed manufacturer’s mark. One of the large serving pieces has a very faint impressed mark which may read:

Rd No. 234458 or 234459

The final digits are difficult to read, so this transcription is uncertain.

If the number has been read correctly, it appears to fall within the British registered-design sequence for 1894.

Distinctive features:

– scalloped and partly fluted rim
– burgundy/red transfer print
– elaborate asymmetrical rococo or acanthus scrolls
– floral sprays and small roses
– separate inner border with linked cartouches and small flowers
– footed sauceboat
– large footed covered tureen
– raised serving dish

Remaining pieces:

– 12 dinner plates
– 6 smaller plates
– 2 serving platters
– 1 raised serving dish
– 1 footed sauceboat
– 1 large covered footed tureen

The service belonged to my grandmother, but it may have been inherited by her from an earlier generation.
