Dear Transferware Collectors Club,

I hope you don’t mind my inquiry.

I have an unmarked Staffordshire transferware dinner plate (26 cm / approx. 10¼ inches) that I am trying to identify.

The plate appears to be:

* black transfer printed
* hand coloured in pink/red and olive green
* highlighted with gilt decoration
* finished with a pearlware/lustre glaze
* probably dating from about 1845–1860.

The back has only impressed numbers, which appear to read either 9 over 63 (or possibly 89 over 6). There is no printed maker’s mark or pattern name.

The central design depicts two Chinese figures beside a balustrade, presenting a vessel, with a third figure seated in a pavilion beneath a flowering tree. The border consists of large pink flowers with olive-green/black scrollwork and gilt geometric ornament.

I have searched several pattern databases but have not been able to find an exact match. I wondered whether anyone might recognize the pattern or suggest a likely manufacturer.
