Your "covered" bowl was probably for serving hot veggies. The pattern is transfer printed which can be verified at the stepped rim edge where the pattern turns over the size edge but was not rubbed down onto the step corner. Also the pattern continues with gaps to the top flat rim surface. The two shades of blue are produced by the depth of the engraved lines. Deeper lines hold more color and result in darker colors.
The body is probably ironstone.
