Re: Unknown Pattern Meat Drainer
It is a lovely pattern on your drainer. The generic title of the style would be Japan pattern/Imari colors. The pattern number "5453" is the key to naming the maker. We have a pattern in the TCC database that is number "5194", and it has a printed mark giving the pattern name "Oriental Japan", and an impressed MINTON mark. It is TCC Pattern #5111 in the database. The style is very close to yours with the same colors, some of the same flowers, and border with the exact narrow red border with little inserts. I checked in Joan Jones' book: MINTON - THE FIRST TWO HUNDRED YEARS OF DESIGN & PRODUCTION. Appendix A lists pattern numbers for Tablewares on China and Earthenware. Most pattern numbers have a letter prefix; however, the author lists on p. 321 the range of pattern numbers without prefix for several dating periods. Patterns 1401-6542 date pre1845. Enjoy!
