I have the attached cricket print and am wondering whether it might be a design for transfer onto ceramic?
Hand-coloured etching with aquatint by an unknown artist, printed in the first half of the 20th century I think. The BM has an engraving of an identical scene published by Alexander Hogg in 1787 and lettered ‘O Neil delin’ (Noble is the engraver); it is possible that the print was based on a drawing by Jefferyes Hammet O'Neale, whose views of places on the outskirts of London bear a similarity to this composition. O’Neale was a porcelain painter for the Chelsea and Worcester factories and a designer of pattern books, book plates and some satires.
Any suggestions gratefully received.
Thank you.
