Jane, we have several hundred transferware advertising items in the TCC Database. Most are pot lids, but some are plaques, platters, plates, mugs, etc. Advertising is an entire DB category. As far as I know there is no general reference on the topic. There is a very basic article I co-authored years ago on the subject in our Bulletin, which is available for free download from the TCC website. There are no current books (one is rumored to be in preparation) on pot lids etc, but the go-to reference is Ronald Dale, 1977, "The Price Guide to Black and White Pot-Lids". Dale lists 2,341 lids, and that is probably only a quarter of the ones produced. One copy of Dale is currently available on eBay, and there are currently two used copies on Amazon. There are also several very thorough references to Pratt-style (polychrome transfer print) lids and bases, some of which feature advertising. Finally, there are several more general introduction-type books on pot lids, if you are interested, let me know with a response in this Message Board and I will list them for you.
