Hi John, good to see the images. I'm not saying that you shouldn't replace the plate, but you could possibly put it back into one piece, just to avoid totally trashing it, although I recognize it may not be worth the bother. First, tape it together (I use masking tape); then impregnate the cracks on the opposite side with a liquid glue; use acetone to remove the excess (wear gloves and of course avoid getting in your eyes); remove the tape after the glue sets (at least 24 hours).
