I do not think this is supposed to represent the Roman era. I think the TCC data base information helps. The Society of the Cincinnati was an American society and is the nation's oldest patriotic organization, founded in 1783 by veteran officers of the Revolutionary War. I think the print reflects this American/Roman model of virtue and simplicity representing the American colonists who, like the Roman Cincinnatus, left his fields to fight and having won the battle returned to his fields to resume his life. There is lots on the internet about the Society of the Cincinnati and George Washington a founder member.
