Re: Wild Rose tureen marked LINAN
Andrew - Thank you for your reply. I have compared the finial on my sauce tureen with one pictured in Gillian Neale's Encyclopedia of British Transfer Printed Pottery Patterns. It appears identical to the one pictured on pg. 27 on a "Grazing Rabbits" lidded supper segment. Might this be evidence the "Grazing Rabbits" and my "Wild Rose" tureen were produced by the same pottery? The finial is a rather unusual stylized animal head shape, possibly a lion. The transfer patterns on each head appear to have been made by applying "bits of transfer pattern" to the odd shaped finial. In neither case do they appear to represent a "real" fur pattern of a lion (or other beast). I haven't seen a similar finial elsewhere. I wonder the liklihood of different potters using such a finial. Any thoughts?
