W.T. Copeland & Sons Spode Rome Stoke upon Trent Transfer Tea Set complete 42 piece -around 1880
Posted by Mary Brown on July 5, 2010, 4:08 pm
I recently acquired a Copeland & Son's 12 piece tea set circa aprox 1880. There was a note in the tea pot that stated: "English Spode Given to Jennie Anthony Merrit on her wedding day July 1, 1880 by her mother, Mrs John Anthony." It is a complete set in excellent condition. I suspect since socializing in the United States was not often done over tea, this must be the reason it has survived in such a beautiful state. It is Copeland & Son's Spode, Style: Rome, Stoke upon Trent, 42 piece set.
I am curious if anyone knows anything about this type of tea set as I am just learning myself. I have attempted to investigate over the internet and bookstores but as of yet have only been able to find one example of the same pattern and those were 2 12inch plates being sold. I am also curious to know the value of the set.
I do have pictures.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!
