Hi! Firstly, my name is Brendon William Tarmey III. I currently live in Nashua, New Hampshire but I was born in Lowell and raised in Dracut, Massachusetts. I've been to this site before several times. Very interesting. I hope one day to delve into my family origins thoroughly at some point, but for now I was just curious how many folks have a prevalence of diabetes in their family, particularly Type 1. I'm 36 and was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 22. Besides myself, there's little to no history of type 1 diabetes on my father's side of the family, so it kind of shoots this theory down, but as I've been researching some things about diabetes, I've learned that the highest prevalence of type 1 diabetes occurs in Scandinavian countries. Taking it a step further, I found this article that suggests a possible link for the origin of diabetes to adaptation against an Ice Age. Either way, while I haven't been able to confirm my origins, I'm curious my diabetes are the result of such theorized gene adaptation connected to Scandinavian people and wonder there could be some slight proof of my origins as a Tormey as with the potential link to Scandinavian origins for the clan. So, wondering if any of you other Tormey's have Type 1 diabets in your family, especially the on the Tormey side. Thanks. Brendon
