While I can't speak for the Tormey clan at large, many in our "Maryland Tormey" line are/have indeed been musically inclined. (I am aware of this being the case for at least 3 generations back.) Most notable is my father's cousin Judy Tormey (my first cousin), an accomplished opera singer for many years in Baltimore. She has mentioned to me in the past that her grandparents were very musical (and that her grandfather Tormey's first attraction to her grandmother was her beautiful singing in church). Music was always important to her parent's generation (my grandparent's generation) as well. Family gatherings always centered around a piano and included lots of singing. I myself have played piano and organ since I was a small child (mostly a classical education). In college (Loyola College, Baltimore), I studied under Hungarian pianist Agi Rado. Unfortunately, other interests got the best of me in life, and my music has been relegated to just being a hoby in my free time, but it is something that has always been important to me. I currently play on a 6' Yamaha conservatory grand. On the subject of your Pennsylvania Tormey ancestors, have you ever been in touch with Marybeth Stevens? (You can find her contact information at http://www.tormeyclan.com/marybeth.htm.) She might be able to help you piece together connections to other Pennsylvania area Tormeys. Warm regards, Link: Michael Tormey
