I totally agree with you Brian. We have some wonderful people in our league, and I’m sure new people, and players who have left due to poor behaviour, who like to play hearts without all the drama and vengeful play, will join.
I have also taken to put the top thread on my profile, and have had a couple of players ask about it. I also agree that changing the format through cases/myleagues won’t stop the players that are playing for some other reason, than play a good game of lowman hearts.
I thought Victoria posted a great post about some strategies, including trust in order to play for low. Maybe we could start a thread for tips of passing etc…to help players understand how important a pass can be.
I am a relative newbie in Tops, but I do love the personal feel of the present league, not bound by a lot of restrictions. My yes vote above was to just maybe try for a month; but I also have seen, first hand, the limitations of being bound by Cases/myleagues structure. In some ways it’s good for easy calculations of ranking, but it doesn’t allow for subs to be put in if a player has an emergency or has been disconnected.
I really think the decision lies mostly with the tds, who are a great group of people giving up their time to host. They run the tourneys and have to feel comfortable about any changes made.
Warnings, timeouts and eventually banning will weed out the few that are a problem. If they come back with anther nic, it would be either to change their behaviour (which is a good thing), or their negative behaviour would soon be displayed, so they would be banned again.
This dialogue is nothing but positive for the league, as I also feel, it doesn’t matter what system or site you use, the fact is….the majority want to have fun and keep the brain cells working!!!!!!!
