How many of you are on a facility supplying staff to a “critically staffed” unit?
In most cases to staff assisting with staffing are getting a nice overtime check.
Staffing on units sending the assistance is beginning to suffer and overtime is being utilized to backfill positions on those facilities. So, double the overtime is being used to fill the same number of positions.
With that said, the agency must take a look at the feasibility of continuing to operate these “critically staffed” vs. consolidation of offender populations to better utilize state resources.
Tax payers and representatives in general, are unaware of the amount of waste within the agency camouflaged as meeting agency, PREA, or ACA “requirements”.
The agency is very quick to provide a knee jerk reaction to incidents, regardless of cost to staff and/or tax payers.
The philosophy seems to be litigation is cheaper than doing the right thing in the first place.
Captains majors and wardens don’t seem to care at Lopez Segovia they are overworking all the officer's. They just want to look good for region and Huntsville. We’ve lost one officer due to accident, several others have had accidents on the road. Officers are having issues at home with there loved ones because they are never home. Lopez Segovia are the only units only sending there staff to what they call volunteers but it’s voluntold or be put on there list. There day will come.
We are staffing 3 units. Your are correct. Our volun told overtimers are burned out. We are what? 6000 officers short!! There is a reason for that. Sure this job isn’t for everybody, no doubt, they better start taking care of the staff that work everyday, in turn, I hope they have been programming robots, because it’s getting a lot worse. Don’t get me wrong, I love my job, but surely the directors see what’s going on, it’s not good. There are over 250 positions posted right now and fixing to be a lot more if they don’t fix it. The sign on bonus isn’t working, that’s obvious. Money talks people, always has and always will. 2 1/2 percent raise is a slap in the face. Your staff that are invested, have shown you loyalty, take care of them. Oh yeah get off the turnout speech, need to see proof, not talk. Don’t forget, we got appreciated last week, it’s a shame it’s once a year and not all year, just saying!!!
My unit is one of the units supplying critically staffed units. Then we have to turn around and mandatory 8-10 people per shift. Doesn't make sense to me. Oh and then these far away units, the state pays for hotels for these officers to stay in while they are there.
