It would be interesting if they would post the age of those promoted. Or if those on the units knew their age and posted it, since we know the agency will never do that. I've been gone 10 years now, so I won't say we, I will say you. You are a bunch of kids being led by kids. How does a 20 year old CO get respect from a 50 or 60 year old lifer? How does a 25 year old sgt or a 28 year old Lt? Some may, but it is rare and it is a long term thing, it doesn't happen right off the bat. And the Major and 01 really care less about your respect. As long as they make their tee times and the poker game is not postponed Oh yea and they get their deer hunting trip free from some ass kissing field boss or maintenance boss It's gone on for years, only gotten worse. And it won't improve until someone like Whitmire gets some teeth into the agency. Huntsville and Regional leadership piss their tightie whities at the mere mention of his name. I've seen the yellow stained underwear hanging on the clothes line, like a badge of honor. Gutless cowards. All they have are each other and their wives, because they lie to their wives.

Man did I hit the hornets nest with my fishing pole or what? At least people here are reading posts and commenting. They don't have their heads in the sand like some. I'm proud of those that speak their mind. You sure don't have to agree with me, of course, but for gosh sakes, speak your mind, make your thoughts and feelings known. After all this is America. I fought nearly 50 years ago for your freedom, so please feel free to blast me if you wish. I can take it. I left all my feelings 10,000 miles away in SE Asia.

I am bitter???? Did you just pull that out of the air? You folks don't understand. I'm on YOUR side. I am saying that it is dangerous for you to work the way the agency is staffed now. Not just the shortage. Don't you see that if the agency is 3, 4 or 5 thousand officers short, that the number of people looking to promote is smaller. With smaller numbers looking to promote, a lot of qualified prospects are included with those NOT looking to promote. I'm not saying the young people promoting a not capable. I'm saying they have a tough row to hoe. Nowhere in my post did I say that anyone was not qualified when they got promoted. Hell, I have no way of knowing, but after nearly 40 years with the state, I think I know how damn hard it is to get respect from some of the I'M's and how hard they can be to manage. My point was, if the agency doesn't retain staff with experience, it is headed for trouble. And the Admin folks don't care, as they are ready to retire anyway, Huntsville will sweep any of their major mistakes under the rug, blame the unit staff, then they will all go fishing together. You have no support from HV. Haven't in years. You may have a little support from some of the RD's, and maybe a little more from a few of the O1's and 30's. But it is going to be tough on the line staff, the ones walking the runs. Not only is your job on the line with staffing as it is, but your safety and maybe even your life. Being so short, corners have to be cut. Who's gonna fade the heat when something happens because of that? Not the ones fishing, playing poker or golf, or deer hunting. No, it will be some poor slob working doubles for 6 or more days straight.
As far as being bitter, I'm far from that. I had the two best supervisors in TDC. I'm making $200 more retired than I was working, I'm drawing SS disability of nearly $2000 a month, momma has a better retirement check than I. I have Medicare, the heart of and 18 year old, (as per my cardiologist) and hang out with my grand kids several time a week. I play in the neighborhood poker game, I fish some (I rarely bait my hook because when they bite, it gets in the way of my beer drinking. We travel some, just got back from Vegas last month. Believe me or not, but I say a prayer for those of you on the units every single day. I'm not bitter, I'm scared, scared for you. I'm sorry many of you misunderstood my post. One of the best things about not having a job, and getting older, is that I no longer care what anyone says about me or thinks about me. I am free to speak my mind and don't have to answer to anyone if it ruffles their feathers. I just wanted to explain, I am on your side, I pray for you and your families. Staff safe, stay alert, keep you head on a swivel, obey policy, at all times, and good luck.

You seem to very bitter towards the agency for someone who been gone 10 years. Don’t you have anything better to do with your time? Are you okay? Do you need a hug? Leave the ambitious correctional officers alone, it’s not their fault you never made it anywhere.

Well, It's Me...did the condescending, arrogant little jerks' responses to you make it abundantly clear JUST how bad the agency is?

It did, yes. But I still am concerned for them, and I still pray for their safety. I am actually surprised, or maybe I just never hear the news when it happens, that they don't have more issues with staff falling to sleep driving to and from work. I know they have lost some officers in the distant past to that, but I haven't heard about any deaths in a while from auto accidents. I wonder if the bus drivers shuttling staff to different units are putting in the same long hours? And what about transportation, are they working overtime on the units and driving too?
