@Who??
I feel for you guys working there. No way you can walk through the gate and feel comfortable or safe. I worked in a traveling job for TDC, going to as many as 19 units in a month. I was at Smith 3 days prior to their riot. I didn't feel safe, and you could tell, it was a pressure cooker about to blow the lid off. I told my inmate crew that traveled with me most days, "when this door opens, we are going to the back gate and leave". My inmates of course saw the same signs of impending trouble and were happy to get out and go back to the trusty camp. I went back to Smith a few days after the riot, and I can attest that it was a scary sight. Lots of blood spilled, lots and lots of broken glass and damaged fencing. And some of the bosses would tell you straight out, that they were scared. I have a friend that was the director of one of the many EMS services working the unit that night, and he told me that when it was said and done, there was not a gauze bandage to be found in the county or the county to the west. They had depleted they supplies of all the first responder medical units. I know it's hard to hang in there till retirement. It's not like it was when was there. I had a total of nearly 40 years with the State. I loved my job, but I am making $200 more a month retired than I did working. I didn't enjoy the job enough to pay to work there. Good luck, stay safe, stay aware.
