New coil secondary
Posted by Rockinriley14 on 6/28/2004, 12:32 pm I have just completed my new secondary, wound around 4inch PVC. It has 1500 turns of #28 AWG which makes for roughly 23in of winds. The inductance should be quite high, so I think i will need lots of primary turns--am I correct? I am considering a beer bottle cap, or maybe a splurge and buy geek group caps for my 15kV 30mA NST. I have made a dryer duct toroid already, but the secondary and toroid are the only completed components. I will be using a SG made from copper pipe. any suggestions would be appreciated. Also i got 4000 feet of 28AWG for $16.53 (+$5.00 S&H) online --ordered monday, recieved Wed. Is this a fair price for the wire? =Rockinriley14=

Re: New coil secondary

As my other post indicated, use at least 17 turns on your primary. Also, make sure that you have lots of air cooling for your copper pipe spark gap. The wire price was reasonable assuming you got double-build (heavy build) wire - small quantities of wire do tend to be pricey. Best regards, -- Bert --
