Hi Sam, Since you are using a PVC coil form, perhaps the simplest way is to purchase a PVC end cap which you can slide onto the top of your secondary form. Since the cap forms a tight fit to the secondary you will not need to glue it in place. This way you can remove it later if necessary. Drill a 1/4" hole in the center of the pipe cap for a 1/4-20 Nylon bolt that will later be used to mount the toroid. You didn't describe how your toroid was constructed. I'll assume that it was made from aluminum dryer duct wrapped around a couple of pie pans or similar. [If you have purchased a toroid that has no center disk, you'll need to make a center disk from a piece of metal, thin plywood, or plastic - it doesn't have to be conductive. The center disk is then slid inside the toroid and carefully taped into place - be careful to make sure that it's centered and level with the toroid.] Drill a 1/4" hole in the center of the disk and mount the disk to the PVC pipe cap using a 1/4" x 20 Nylon bolt and nut. Take the wire from the top of the secondary and wrap it around the secondary and PVC end cap using a couple of widely spaced turns. Carefully tape the wire so that it lays flatly on the bottom of the toroid's center disk. Finally, strip the end of the wire and, using aluminum heating and ventillation tape, tape the stripped end to the toroid's inner surface so that it makes good electrical contact and then smooth out the tape. That's it! BTW, a slight modification to the above approach is to bolt a couple more PVC end caps, each facing each other, to the existing PVc end cap and the center disk of the toroid. Then add various lengths of PVC pipe between the two end caps in order to adjust the height of your toriod versus the secondary. However, be careful not to elevate the toroid too high. As before, all joints can remain slip fit to permit disassembly. You'll know if the toroid is positioned too high if corona begins forming at the top of your secondary winding. Good luck and best regards, -- Bert --
: Hi!
: How should I attach the top of the secondary's wire to the toroid? And how
: should the toroid be attached to the secondary? Also, is it necessary to
: cover the ends of the open PVC secondary that I am using?
: Thanks in advance!!
