I am a science fiction author with a limited engineering background. I am considering incorporating tesla coils or related technology in a novel. I am interested in avoiding the most implausible mistakes while NOT actually giving away information which might encourage someone to experiment dangerously.
I am interested in chatting with Mr. Hickman or other denizen of this board to get better acquainted with the technology.
Entering argument: Source of power is a 2MW hydroelectric dam. The source of talent is a cadre of electrical engineers from the TVA. The source of parts and equipment include the repair yards and spare parts inventory of Units 1 and 2 at Watts Bar Nuclear Generating Facility.
Question - could you build a series of mutually supporting tesla coils that serve as an area denial system to determined pedestrian traffic? What sort of injuries would be sustained by those that attempt to push through? What are the hardest parts to acquire and configure (transformers, capacitors etc.?
If I am asking in the wrong place or this inquiry isn't welcome, I apologize in advance. I am very open to alternative sources of information if anyone has suggestions.
Thank you!
