: Dear Bert
: I am a sculptor and researcher and am beginning work on a new project. I
: am interested in the possibility of producing a large-scale 3D Lichtenberg
: figure. The scale would depend on the limits of material, equipment and
: funding, but I would certainly like to discuss these with you.
: Please get in touch if this could be of interest to you.
: Many thanks
There are indeed a number of limitations of the process and materials. At maximum energy, the electron beam can only penetrate about 1/2" into acrylic. The maximum specimen height is about 14 inches, and the maximum width and length (governed by cart size) is about 4 feet by 6 feet. There are a number of other considerations, such as surface finish, object shape, material uniformity, and their effect on the internal electrical field that will govern the quality of the resulting discharges and whether the specimens will prematurely discharge as they are being irradiated by the E-beam. Please email me at email@example.com to provide more details and so that we can discuss the feasibility. We may be doing a special "run" this Spring, so the timing is good.
